Sheboygan A’s score late to earn victory over Appleton Legends

The Sheboygan A's defeated the Appleton Legends in dramatic fashion Wednesday night by a score of 5-4.

SHEBOYGAN, WI- The Sheboygan A’s defeated the Appleton Legends in dramatic fashion Wednesday night by a score of 5-4.

The game was tied at four with the A’s batting in the bottom of the ninth when Ben Gordon laid down a suicide squeeze bunt which scored a run and secured the victory for the A’s.

The Legends, however, struck first taking the lead in the first inning. Evan Bohman homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs and giving the Legends an 2-0 lead.

The A’s however answered back in the third scoring four runs after Adam Ryan hit his first grand slam of the season. This gave the A’s a 4-2 lead which would last until the seventh.

The Legends knotted the game up at four in the top of the seventh after a wild pitch by Brady Nehring scored a run.

Mitchell Eady started the game for Appleton Legends. He pitched three and two-thirds innings, giving up four runs, three hits, and striking out four. Nehring started the game for the A’s. He threw seven innings, allowing four runs, seven hits, striking out ten and walking one.

Mitch Gardner earned the win for the A’s. He threw two innings, allowing zero runs, zero hits, striking out two and walking one. Matt DeYoung took the loss for Appleton Legends. He tossed two and a third innings, allowing one run, three hits and striking out four.

The A’s collected seven hits on the night; Chris Saltzman and Ryan lead the pack, each securing two.

Bohman led the Legends with two runs batted in. He went 1-for-5 on the day.

This win the A’s move up to 7-3, while the Legends fall to 5-3.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League is a top-tier, wooden bat, adult semi-professional baseball league located in northeastern Wisconsin. Players in the league are considered amateur status, are not paid and consist mostly of current college baseball players, as well as former college and professional players.
