The Appleton Legends capitalized on a pair of Menasha errors and received a dominant performance from Ethan Winkler to earn a 2-1 Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League victory. Reid Hietpas drove in the game’s first run with a third-inning single before Appleton doubled its lead in the seventh when Nick Terrell reached on an error that allowed Anthony Weyers to score. Winkler struck out nine over 6 2/3 innings to earn the win, while Bryce Mischler worked the final 2 1/3 innings to secure the save despite Menasha threatening in both the eighth and ninth. Hietpas finished 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Legends, while Menasha’s lone run came on Colin Nigl’s sacrifice fly in the seventh. The Macs loaded the bases in the ninth but were unable to break through as Appleton held on for the one-run victory.
The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League is a top-tier, wooden bat, adult semi-professional baseball league located in northeastern Wisconsin. Players in the league are considered amateur status, are not paid and consist mostly of current college baseball players, as well as former college and professional players.
