Appleton Hands Menasha First NEWBL Loss with 13-8 Comeback Victory

Appleton erased an early four-run deficit and used a five-run seventh inning to pull away for a 13-8 victory over Menasha on Tuesday, handing the Macs their first loss of the season.

Appleton erased an early four-run deficit and used a five-run seventh inning to pull away for a 13-8 victory over Menasha on Tuesday, handing the Macs their first loss of the season. Menasha built a 4-0 lead behind two home runs from Jack Anzelmo and an RBI single by Jackson Anderson before Appleton answered with a three-run homer by Chris Vandenheuvel in the fourth and took a 7-4 lead with four runs in the fifth. Menasha responded with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, highlighted by Anzelmo’s second three-run homer of the game and a solo shot from Anderson, but the Legends seized control in the seventh. Appleton capitalized on a pair of Menasha errors before Alex Ramus delivered an RBI single, Alex Hanneman launched a two-run homer, and Titan Milhaupt followed with a solo homer to cap the decisive rally. Milhaupt finished with three hits, including a home run, while Vandenheuvel drove in three runs and Hanneman added three RBIs. Anzelmo powered Menasha with two home runs and five RBIs. With the win, Menasha fell to 5-1 but remained in first place in the NEWBL, while Appleton improved to 5-2, moving into second place a half-game behind the Macs.
