Green Bay Storm pulls away from Marinette Redbirds to capture victory

GREEN BAY, WI- The game was tight early but the Green Bay Storm pulled away from the Marinette Redbirds to prevail with a 16-6 victory.

The Storm captured the lead in the first inning after the Redbirds committed an error scored which scored a run.

Marinette answered back offensively in the top of the second scoring a run of their own. The Storm then responded with another run after Tyler Brown homered off of Matt Hansen which gave them a 2-1 lead going into the third.

The Redbirds then knotted the game up at two in the top of the third when Jason Hofer singled and drove in a run to make the score 2-2.

The game stayed tied at two until the bottom of the fourth when Matt Hansen walked Kyle Mrozinski to drive in a run for the Storm, after which the Storm took the lead an ran with it. The team added to their lead in the fifth by scoring seven more runs.

The Redbirds did not back down however and scored four of their own in the seventh inning but it just wasn’t enough to make up the 12 run deficit.

Mitch Eagan earned the win for the Strom going three innings, surrendering zero runs, two hits, striking out three and walking one. Hansen took the loss for the Redbirds. He tossed four innings, giving up five runs, two hits and striking out two.

One positive note for the Redbirds on the night was that they collected nine hits, while the Storm only had seven. Scott Eldredge, Jason Hofer and Riley Hegg lead the team, with each collecting multiple hits.

With this win the Storm move up to 5-1, while the Redbirds fall to 3-4.
