Late scoring run by Appleton hands Sheboygan a loss

The Sheboygan A's stayed in it until the end, but the Appleton Legends pulled away late in a 5-2 victory on Tuesday.

SHEBOYGAN, WI- The Sheboygan A’s stayed in it until the end, but the  Appleton Legends pulled away late in a 5-2 victory on Tuesday.

The Legends trailed 2-1 in the top of the seventh inning when Trent Whitcomb doubled off of Rodney Valdez, driving in two runs.

The A’s captured the lead in the first inning after Mitchell Sutton drove in one run after hitting a single, and held onto the lead until the seventh inning when Appelton took control, handing Sheboygan a rare home loss.

Mitchell Eady earned the win in relief for Appleton. He threw four innings, allowing zero runs, four hits and striking out four. Valdez took the loss for Sheboygan. He went six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs, seven hits and striking out 11.

Jason Mallowski started the game for the Legends. He threw two innings, surrendering two runs, two hits and striking out two.

Adam Ryan, Ben Gordon, Weston Nelson, Josh Moses, Mark Wanner and Sutton each collected one hit to lead the A’s offensively.

Appleton collected ten hits. Kevin Kangas, Evan Bohman and Matt Baehman each collected multiple hits for the Legends.

The win moves the Legends to 2-1 in the NEWBL while the loss drops the A’s to 4-2.

The Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League is a top-tier, wooden bat, adult semi-professional baseball league located in northeastern Wisconsin. Players in the league are considered amateur status, are not paid and consist mostly of current college baseball players, as well as former college and professional players.
