MENASHA – Troy Mannebach was one out away from pitching a no-hitter against the Menasha Macs on Thursday.

That last out never came, however, as the Macs rallied with three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Oshkosh Giants 3-2 in a Northeastern Wisconsin Baseball League game at Koslo Park.

With the Giants leading 2-0 after scoring two runs in the top of the ninth, Mannebach retired the first batter in the bottom half of the inning to keep his no-hitter going.

Mannebach then walked Zach Bayreuther, Sam Hawley and Mac Shumann to load the bases with one out. He struck out Alex Grambow for the second out, keeping the no-hitter intact.

Menasha’s Alex Duros then came up and lined a single to right field to break up the no-hitter and drive in two runs to tie the game at 2-2. Ryan Hinske followed with another single to right field to bring home the winning run.

Mannebach, a former Appleton West standout, finished with 11 strikeouts but walked six batters.

Jason Wierschke was just as solid on the mound for the Macs, also striking out 11 batters in the complete-game win. He gave up seven hits and did not walk a batter.
